A team of researchers led by Dr. Sarah Sallon, Director of The Louis L. Borick Natural Medicine Research Center (NMRC) at the Hadassah Medical Center, has succeeded in growing a 2,000-year-old date seed, the oldest ever to be germinated. Details of the research appear in the June 13, 2008 issue of Science Magazine in an article entitled "Germination, Genetics, and Growth of an Ancient Date Seed."
On the heels of success of the Phase I trials, Hadassah Medical Center has embarked on the next set of tests for Oramed Pharmaceuticals' oral insulin capsule—the world's first oral insulin treatment for Type 2 diabetes.
Professor Dimitrios Karussis, Senior Neurologist at the Hadassah Medical Center, and Professor Shimon Slavin, former head of Hadassah's Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit and founder of the International Center for Cell Therapy and Cancer (ICTC) at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, have received the "International Adult Stem Cell Research and Therapeutic Treatments Award 2008" from the Worldwide Center for Adult Stem Cell Education (WCASCE).
Prof. Arieh Shalev, Chief of the Hadassah Medical Center's Psychiatry Department and a leading world expert in post-traumatic stress, is leading groundbreaking research into treatment for Military Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
To date, Hadassah International has raised $8.81 million for the new Sarah Wetsman Davidson Tower of Healing, being built at Hadassah Hospital–Ein Kerem. Addressing Crucial Needs: New Hadassah Projects, 2008-2009
Trauma victims, organ transplant recipients, patients with blood cancers like leukemia, and those undergoing heart and orthopedic surgery, all rely on Hadassah's Blood Bank for massive numbers of blood transfusions. At Hadassah--the only hospital in Israel with a large frozen store of red blood--close to 100,000 blood units are transfused each year!
Hadassah is Israel's largest kidney stone treatment center and one of the first hospitals worldwide to acquire a lithotripter, which noninvasively fragments kidney stones, enabling them to pass out of the body. If Hadassah is to retain its state-of-the-art status in kidney treatment, it is imperative that our Medical Center acquire the latest, more highly advanced equipment.
As a state-of-the-art cancer facility and the address for all radiation therapy in the Jerusalem area, the Hadassah Medical Center's Sharett Institute of Oncology treats 1600 patients a year with state-of-the-art radiotherapy, the number one weapon against cancer for children and adults.
The Pediatrics Department at Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus serves both Arabs and Jews from the northern neighborhoods of Jerusalem, the surrounding towns and villages, and the Palestinian Authority, as well as patients who come from all parts of the country. The Department badly needs renovating to bring the facilities up to date and enable it to serve the ever-expanding population of children who need its expertise.
Hadassah's physicians, surgeons, and radiologists are successfully treating stroke by engineering innovations and refining existing procedures and practices. Given its unique expertise, Hadassah is establishing a Stroke Center of Excellence, which must be outfitted with the latest in sophisticated diagnostic and treatment options.

France's First Lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, toured Hadassah Hospital-Ein Kerem during a three-day visit to Israel with her husband, HE President Nicolas Sarkozy.
During a debate in the British House of Commons commemorating Israel's 60th anniversary, two Members of Parliament (MPs) lauded the achievements of the Hadassah Medical Center and its contributions to world peace.
Representatives from the Liberal Democratic Party, including the head of the Liberal Democrat Friends of Israel (LFI), recently toured Hadassah Hospital-Ein Kerem for the first time and were impressed by what they heard from a Palestinian physician and a Palestinian patient about medial excellence at Hadassah.

The Chief Rabbi of Panama, Rabbi Sion Levy, in the presence of the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Shlomo Moshe Amar, and over 150 of his Panamanian compatriots, was honored with a cornerstone dedication ceremony at the Fannie and Maxwell Abbell Synagogue at Hadassah University Hospital, marking the donation of one million dollars by a Panamanian family to the Sarah Wetsman Davidson Tower in the Panamanian Rabbi's honor.

After being approached by Director of Hadassah Germany Gady Gronich, Minstrel Musician Marcus van Langen agreed to donate funds from his latest CD sales to the Hadassah Medical Center. This particular CD included 20 songs from the Middle Ages, and featured a famous Palestinian tune about the "Holyland," written in the 1200s.

Close to 100 people attended a Hadassah Germany panel presentation featuring an Arab and a Jewish Israeli, entitled "Can Opposites Connect—Two Israelis in Dialogue." The presenters were Dr. Mohammed Saif-Alden Wattad, an attorney, and Efraim Lapid, Brigadier General and Senior Intelligence Officer for the Israel Defense Forces, with the dialogue moderated by Professor Andreas Bönte, Bavarian Television's Program Manager for Planning and Development.

In the presence of Hadassah Medical Center Director General Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef and Associate Director General Dr. Yair Birnbaum, Hadassah Switzerland-Geneva held an elegant fundraising dinner and auction at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Philippe Amon, major supporters of the Sarah Wetsman Davidson Tower Campaign, who had recently visited the Hadassah Medical Center.

Young Hadassah New York hosted an intimate wine and cheese gathering in June, bringing to light some of the key issues surrounding embryonic stem-cell research.

Young Hadassah United Kingdom and Laniado Hospital of Netanya, Israel took to the streets of London together on an open-top bus as part of the "Salute to Israel" parade in London.
Young Hadassah Holland concluded its multicultural cooking workshop series with a third course focused on preparing traditional Jewish and Arab dishes.
