An elegant evening, catered by President Jayne Chait and her husband, Martin, generated new life and annual members, a great deal of good will for Hadassah International, and abundance of interest in our Medical Center. Many people, new to Hadassah, were eager to learn more about the breakthroughs at our hospitals. There was also a lively raffle and an interview with a reporter from The Jewish Chronicle.

Hadassah United Kingdom’s Parkinson Committee (PATH--Parkinson's At The Hadassah) sponsored a Casino Royale at a beautiful hotel overlooking the River Thames in London. About 350 people attended the event where Dr. Zvi Israel of Hadassah’s Department of Neurosurgery was the honored guest and more than $200,000 was raised to support his research into Parkinson’s disease at the Hadassah Medical Center.

Hadassah Cuba has presented several lectures recently, including one to school children on preventing the spread of intestinal parasites. A series of lectures on Cardiac Stroke and First Aid are also in process for the entire community.

Keeping up the momentum of the joint collaboration between The Alfred Hospital of Melbourne, Australia and the Hadassah Medical Center, four top Israeli experts in mass casualty management visited Melbourne as guests of The Alfred from February 11-16, 2007.

Generating interest in the new Tower Campaign, Susi Shaked, President of Hadassah Austria, took a delegation on a visit to the Hadassah Medical Center in March. While at Hadassah Hospital-Ein Kerem, the participants, coming from Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, heard a detailed explanation of the architectural plans for the new tower as they viewed the impressive model. One of the participants, Magister der Architektur (Mag. Arch.) Elisabeth Schubrig, is an architect and builder who is building a hospital for vascular disease and recovery in Austria. She noted that she came away with several ideas to explore for her own hospital project. Another member of the delegation was Prof. Hartmut Köehler, Professor of Humanities at Trier University, Trier, Germany, who recently gave a presentation at a Hadassah Austria event.

Prof. David Branski, Chairman of Pediatrics at the Hadassah Medical Center, and Prof. Elliot Berry, Director of the Department of Human Nutrition and Metabolism in the Braun School of Public Health of the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Medicine, were featured speakers in a 10-day seminar on pediatrics and public health in the Argentinean province of Tucuman.

Dr. Roman Skoblo and his wife, Elvira, Vice President of Hadassah Germany, enjoyed a visit at the Hadassah Medical Center this past February. Residents of Berlin, they have a son who is studying in Jerusalem. Since Dr. Skoblo is particularly interested in clinical microbiology, a meeting with Prof. Alon Mozes, head of the Department of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, was quickly arranged.
