A Special Tribute
27-Nov-2007
Hadassah International is saddened at the passing of Cantor Mordecai Goldstein, husband of Barbara Goldstein, Deputy Director of Hadassah’s Office in Israel. We extend our sympathy to Barbara and her family.

Barbara’s daughter, Devra Bender Miller, recently gave a speech in Puerto Rico in which she shared her experience at Hadassah Hospital-Ein Kerem the two weeks before her father passed away. See below for an excerpt:

“I spent two weeks at Hadassah-Ein Kerem while my dad was in the intensive care unit. Aside from being in the awesome state-of-the-art facility with brilliant doctors, I gained a whole new perspective of Hadassah as the “Island of Peace.”

One of my Dad’s attending physicians was Arab and he was incredible. My family fell in love with him. We respected his medical expertise, as did his colleagues.

In the waiting area, I made friends with a Moslem woman named Iman, and her family from Nablus, originally from Syria. Iman’s mother was also in intensive care. We hung out and consoled each other daily.

I experienced Hadassah’s island of peace first-hand, where Jews and Arabs are side-by-side, working, crying, and praying together for the recovery of their loved ones. I walked through the halls of Hadassah and saw all the plaques on the walls with the names of donors and I thank those names every day for building this magnificent hospital.”
